about us.
when did it all start.
Tricounties trail running started in the autumn of 2019 with The Race on the Chase, a 10k/HM event taking in some of the beautiful countryside where Dorset meets Hampshire and Wiltshire. With a modest entry of less than 100 runners this event provided a valuable lesson in what is needed to stage a good trail race.
It seemed I got most things right, and the friendly atmosphere and wonderful trails provided a great day’s running, oh and tea and cake at the end went down well too! Other events have now been added to our calendar, and for 2022 we have five races spread throughout the year. Distances range from 5k to ultra marathon, so something for everyone. We finish the season in December with a 19k Christmas event which provides the opportunity to join with friends for festive fun, in fancy dress if you wish.
I have a passion for trail running, and regularly compete in local events, and really enjoy the great comradery in the running community. To stage my events I do need plenty of volunteers, for a wide variety of roles, both on the day and in preparation. If you feel you could offer help please contact me, I’m happy to reward your efforts in future race entries of clothing.

highlights of our location..

classic english villages
If you find yourself on tarmac, the chances are you will be passing briefly through one of the charming villages in the area. With very little modern development they sport a wide variety of old cottages and farmhouses, each completely unique.
Wide open countryside
Many of our runs feature the ancient tracks that criss-cross the area, on the chalk downland these would have been the trading routes between towns and villages. On these elevated sites the views are remarkable, and you are constantly reminded of the depth of history by the sites you see and pass, these will include Iron Age Hill forts, medieval boundary banks, pre historic long barrows and much evidence of Roman occupation.

An area rich in wildlife, fauna and flora
Away from the open farmland, routes will take you through ancient woodlands and shady trails that meander down into the valleys. Every season of the year brings it’s special features, snowdrops in the spring, followed by bluebells and wild garlic.

Up On The Downs
An excellent multi terrain course with some smashing views once you’d brested the hills!
(which were not too tough).Mike, the organiser, puts a lot of effort into making this and other runs a well organised and interesting run with good signs covering the varied terrain and well stocked aid stations.
Trail trainers should be worn as a couple of narrow trails are very muddy and cannot be avoided!
This would also be a great course for introducing runners to multi terrain routes although they should be 10k run fit prior to trialling.
Thank you for an excellent experience.

The Bluebell Bash
My first time doing this event and I have to say it was a really lovely run. Through the woods, full of Bluebells, through fields and such beautiful surroundings, blue sky all day. Very nice and helpful staff, great atmosphere.. Lovely medal ,made from recycled glass, has to be my favourite one so far. Can’t wait for next year.
Would definitely do it again.

All Run and Games Throwback to Summer 22 where Charlie and his friend Archie won their first ultra marathon whilst training for the Everest Challenge. Race Across Dorset is an awesome trail race organised by @tricounties_trail_running and includes running 53 miles across the county of Dorset, UK. Such an amazing route and well worth a go for all you trail ultra runners out there! Their coach was @strideandglory who is making big moves in the running industry and well worth a follow. 😃
